Filtering out dumb 2.0 contributors

The whole Web 2.0 thing sounds so good in theory. Someone creates something interesting and uploads it, and other people comment, stimulating intelligent debate and adding to the creative process. Except that in reality, the quality of the comments is often so poor. You watch something and think “Wow! So much food for thought – [...]

Alphabet Cities

Flicking through the latest issue of Computer Arts I came across a very interesting approach to map design. Chris Ward has used the cities he has visited and his letter press to produce these large scale maps. He says “the aesthetic in my letterpress work comes from the fact that I only own a couple [...]

Weekend U Berniego

Now we all know that global branding is ‘a good thing’, right? Consistency of message across various markets makes sense in our multinational society, intertwined as it is by cheap(ish) air travel, the world wide interweb and a more migrant workforce. But no-one wants a homogeneous, one-size-fits-all planet. So it’s refreshing to see that Polish [...]

After some investigation i found out that Penguin have “re-issued all 14 of Ian Flemings James Bond [...]

The best hotel in the world

If you’ve never heard of the Madonna Inn, then prepare for an accommodation sensation. Situated on Madonna Road (no, I’m not making this up) in San Luis Obispo, California, this hotel has 109 ‘individually decorated’ rooms that have to be seen to be believed. You’ll never stay in a Marriott again.

Take the time to flick [...]

Olympic entertainment –is it really over?

Following the spectacular closing ceremony at the Beijing Olympics, all eyes are already on the UK to come up with something equally as stunning to surprise the pessimists, surpass expectations, improve our city and inspire young champions of the future in London’s 2012 Games.

No longer can the office stop working, to crowd around the [...]

Chocolates you love, chocolates you hate

Just spotted this rather good website for Mars brand Revels, the ‘Russian roulette’ of chocolates where you don’t know which centre you’ve got until it’s in your mouth. Visitors are invited to nominate a flavour for ‘eviction’ from the pack, to be replaced by a new flavour coming soon.
Despite the questionable wisdom of encouraging people [...]
